Mauricio Pochettino could be axed if Chelsea don’t beat Fulham and Burnley

According to Andy Goldstein, a pundit on TalkSPORT, there’s a possibility that Chelsea might dismiss Mauricio Pochettino if they don’t secure victories in their upcoming two matches. Chelsea recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, marking their third loss in six games.

As a result, they currently occupy the 14th position in the league, with a four-point gap separating them from 18th-placed Luton and a nine-point deficit from fourth-placed Tottenham. Pochettino has already requested patience from the Chelsea board, emphasizing that he is overseeing a developmental process at Stamford Bridge. However, Goldstein suggests that Chelsea could opt to terminate Pochettino’s contract if they don’t win their next two matches against Fulham and Burnley.

Goldstein said: “I look at the Chelsea side, it doesn’t look like a Chelsea team. There’s no spine to it. They can’t score goals. They’ve got five goals in six games, three of them were against Luton. Since 2017, six years ago, they’ve spent just shy of €300m on strikers, none of them have delivered. I know they’ve got injuries, but all clubs have injuries. Nicolas Jackson has got one goal in six games. How much of this is the fault of the owner Todd Boehly? The reason I ask that is when he came in, he’s spent over £1 billion on players, his background is not English football, and instantly, it was like a scattergun approach. Paying crazy money for all kinds of different players, lots of them they didn’t need, they didn’t address the problem from day one which was an out-and-out goalscorer and they still haven’t got that.”

He added: “When you look at the teams they’ve got coming up (to play), Fulham away, Burnley away, Arsenal at home, Brentford at home, Spurs away, City at home, Newcastle away, Brighton at home, Manchester United away. When you’re struggling, those are tough games. Even the next two. I personally think, if they don’t beat Fulham and Burnley, he could be gone.” The Blues are scheduled to take on Brighton in the Carabao Cup this Wednesday, followed by their upcoming league match against Fulham.
