Mbappe injured as PSG score four goals against Marseille

Kylian Mbappe had to leave the match early due to a suspected ankle injury as Paris St-Germain secured a comfortable win against Marseille, marking their return to victory in Ligue 1.

PSG’s star forward initially tried to continue playing following an early clash with Leonardo Balerdi but ultimately had to be substituted before the first half concluded.

There is uncertainty about Mbappe’s availability when the French champions face Newcastle in an away Champions League match on 4 October.

PSG easily defeated Marseille, with goals scored by Achraf Hakimi, Randal Kolo Muani, and two by Goncalo Ramos. This victory propelled PSG to the third position in Ligue 1, trailing early-season leaders Brest by only two points.

Luis Enrique’s team had previously suffered a 3-2 loss to Nice at home on 15 September in Ligue 1, but their fortunes changed dramatically once Morocco’s full-back, Hakimi, scored directly from a free-kick. Hakimi then delivered the cross that allowed Muani to score his first goal since his £64.2 million transfer, plus £12.2 million in add-ons, from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the month.

Substitute Ramos secured the win with the third and fourth goals after replacing the injured Mbappe. Marseille, who saw their manager, Marcelino, resign last week, had a chance to level the score at 1-0 but Vitinha’s header hit the crossbar. This loss, their first in Ligue 1 this season, leaves them in seventh place in the standings, trailing PSG by two points.
