Liverpool vs Spurs VAR error referees not selected for upcoming weekend games

The officials responsible for the VAR error that led to the disallowed goal for Liverpool against Tottenham won’t be officiating in the upcoming Premier League weekend matches.

Darren England and assistant Dan Cook, who were involved in the incident where Luis Diaz was incorrectly flagged offside, haven’t been selected.

Simon Hooper, the on-field referee from that game, will serve as the VAR official for Bournemouth’s match against Everton. Michael Oliver, who was the fourth official during the incident, will be involved in two games.

He’ll act as the VAR official for Luton’s game against Tottenham on Saturday and take charge on the field for Arsenal’s match against Manchester City on Sunday.

England and Cook faced removal from their duties for the remainder of the past weekend due to an error at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which the referees’ governing body PGMOL deemed a “significant human error.”

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat, the club expressed dissatisfaction with PGMOL’s response to the contentious incident, labeling the explanation as “unacceptable” and asserting that “sporting integrity has been undermined.” On Monday, the club formally requested the audio recordings between the match officials to gain a deeper understanding of the communication breakdown that occurred.
