Belgium beat Austria to secure Euro 2024 spot

Belgium secured their spot in Euro 2024 in Germany with a narrow victory against Austria.

The crucial match in Vienna saw Belgium take the lead in the 12th minute as Timothy Castagne assisted Dodi Lukebakio, who later scored his second goal at the 55-minute mark. Romelu Lukaku added a third goal shortly after, making it 3-0.

Austria made a comeback with goals from Konrad Laimer and a Marcel Sabitzer penalty. Despite Everton midfielder Amadou Onana receiving a second yellow card in the 78th minute, reducing Belgium to 10 men, they held on to their lead.

With this win, Belgium leads Group F with 16 points from five wins and one draw in six matches, three points ahead of Austria. Third-placed Sweden has only six points from five games. Belgium, having faced quarter-final defeats in Euro 2020 and Euro 2016, will now join hosts Germany in the upcoming tournament. Austria has a chance to qualify if they win in Azerbaijan on Monday. Additionally, France and Portugal secured their places in Euro 2024 on Friday.
